Background
"Originally brought up in the suburban south of England, I
went to the
University of Wales, Bangor
where the
mountains are just
wonderful. I studied electronic engineering and went on to take a number of
industrial positions around southern England before settling at
University College London's Mullard Space Science Lab.
It gave me an opportunity to contribute something to a field that really
interested me and that I felt was important. I had an involvement in missions
ranging from
ROSAT,
SOHO
CDS,
XMM
RGS and
OM, and finally as
electrical systems engineer on the
EIS instrument on the Japanese Solar-B mission.
University funding problems allowed me to apply for and take up the
role and the rest is
in the future."
"I strongly support the idea of
as a way of bringing
the focus of the people involved back to the actual technology, rather than
other daily distractions. It's just a little unnerving being part of the
experiment..."
